Course Description: This course offers new students a 6 week introduction to the potter’s wheel. Participants will experience basic methods of centering clay, forming cylinder and bowl forms, trimming, and adding handles. Students will also learn how to finish their pots using standard decorating and glazing techniques. This class is for students with no prior pottery wheel experience, all are welcome.

Course fee includes unlimited clay, use of community tools, 10 studio-made glazes, bisque firing and glaze firing for up to 10lb work per participant (additional firing for a fee).  Flexible make-up scheduling for any missed classes. Open studios all day Saturday are also included for students currently enrolled in a class.

CLAY FOR A DAY – Wheel Throwing

Beginners Welcome! Enjoy the wonders of clay on the potter’s wheel in this three-hour, fun time, mud making event. Students will complete two to three vessels and pick glaze colors for their fully functional wares made at the Chicago Ceramic Center. Microwave, oven and dishwasher safe pottery will be available for pick up the following Third Friday from 7-9:30PM.

Independent Study: 24/7 All Access Open Studio

Basic $195 | Premium $205 per month

Independent Study allows our more advanced pottery students to work autonomously with access to our classroom equipment and facilities. We require that you have been enrolled in at least one previous class at CCC prior to your enrollment in this program(or by approval by the Director Call 773-773-1819).

Registration for this program is offered on a monthly basis. Both Basic and Premium includes one shelf (36”w 18”d x 20”h – aprox), free bisque and glaze firing in electric, gas or soda kiln. Basic package includes 25 lbs of our white stoneware or brown stoneware with speckles. Premium includes 25 lbs of porcelain, dark brown/black stoneware or Brooklyn red stoneware. Additional clay is available for sale per 25 lbs. All clay must be purchased from CCC.

Class: Intermediate Wheel Throwing

6 Week Session $265

Wednesdays 7-9:30pm | Jan 8th – Feb 12th

Requirements: Participants should be able to reliably center and pull an even cylinder with 1.5lb clay.

Course Description: This is an ideal course for students who have completed one or multiple sessions of our Beginner Wheel Throwing class or have other recent ceramic experience. This course will help you gain technical skills to make functional pottery and incorporate unique, decorative elements into your work. Topics include handles, lids, teapots, throwing off the hump, and creating altered forms. Pieces finished with your choice of our studio glazes will be food safe and fully functional.

Course fee includes unlimited practice clay, use of studio equipment, tools, and bisque & glaze firing for up to 10lb work (additional firing for a fee).

Students previously must have taken some type of beginning wheel throwing classes. Check with your current instructor if you are unsure or call 773-773-1819 for an idea of level placement.

Open studios on Saturdays are also included for students currently enrolled in a class.

Class: Intermediate Wheel Throwing

8 Week Session $325

Wednesdays 7-10pm – begins May 25th

Course Description: This is an ideal course for students that have either completed our Beginner Wheel Throwing class or have other similar experience such as taking ceramics in high school or college.  This course will help you gain technical skills to make functional pottery and incorporate unique, decorative elements into your work. Topics include handles, lids, teapots, throwing off the hump, and creating altered forms. Pieces finished with your choice of our studio glazes will be food safe and fully functional. Course fee includes use of studio equipment, tools, bisque firing, glaze firing, and 25 lbs of clay. (Personal tools are recommended but not required.)

Students previously must have taken some type of beginning wheel throwing classes. Check with your current instructor if you are unsure or call 773-505-0703 for an idea of level placement.

Open studios on Saturdays until 6pm are also included for students currently enrolled in a class.

Class: Raku and You

4 Week Session $295
Oct 12th – Nov 2nd Wednesdays 7-10PM

Instructor:  Jay Strommen and Fire Master Carl Mankert

Course Description:  Learn Raku,  the ancient  firing technique brought to the United States in the  mid 20th century.  Aesthetics, glazes, under glazes and more will be covered in this comprehensive four week class. In this class we will merge the Raku aesthetic with your sculptures and or vessels.

Course fee includes clay, tools, bisque firing and glaze firing. No additional costs.

Students previously must have taken a beginning wheel throwing class at CCC or other ceramic center/equivelant.

 

Ceramic Infusions – Hand Building Workshop

April 29, 4-7PM $45

Workshop Description: Join us for a one day workshop, “Ceramic Infusions”.  You will learn how to work and build with slabs, coils and have fun playing with clay!

Fee includes clay, tools, bisque firing and glaze firing. No additional costs.
