OPENING RECEPTION: FEBRUARY 19TH 6 – 9 PM
FEBRUARY 5 – APRIL 22

The Midwest Clay Stories is a series aimed at identifying the people and trends that have influenced, shaped and contributed to the world’s ceramic culture. An interactive project incorporating each viewer’s experience will be an integral part in the future of this exhibition’s digital archive.

“Upon founding the Chicago Ceramic Center, for both personal and historic reasons, I felt an urgent need to begin the process of formally mapping the rich ceramic history in the Midwest. I feel obligated out of respect for the great ceramic tradition that my hands and mind have been gifted.

We ask the ceramic artists visiting the exhibition to take part in this history by writing in the open journals placed near each of the artist’s works. They are asked to contribute their thoughts and experiences directly related to these exemplary artists who have kept the traditions alive. These journals will be transcribed, making a historical time-line and an open source that others will be able to add to digitally and from future exhibitions from this series.”
